BR2049 is not a terrible film but it really fails to live up to the classic original Blade Runner (1982) even the inferior cuts of Blade Runner.
It is far, far too long. The visuals are stunning but the story is very thin (yet still has holes) and does not justify anywhere near the screen time.
The music misses the mark. The sound is good and hits the right notes with the music but Vangellis" score was a big part of the original that is sadly mostly absent here. And a lot of the sound cues are just brief and blasted at us as if to say "HERE IS THE BLADE RUNNER SOUND!
The story like I said is very thin. The runner finds everything easily and we know what is going to happen. When we see the flower by the tree do they really need to drag that "discovery" on for so long? The discovery of the wooden horse takes forever too, even though we know exactly what is happening long before that. Everything drags in this movie and it"s not like they are creating tension or anything. The emotion is also flat.
They deliberately abandon avenues (the new corporate evil puppet master) and obviously are hoping to do more sequels.
There are annoying nonsensical happenings too, logic holes and lots of questions unanswered.
Here are some of my issues after watching this, and this is where light SPOILERS are. Olmos does everything but say "Deckard is a replicant" but if so why does he age just like a human? Replicants can have kids now but they don"t even explore how or why? Vegas is in a radioactive cloud but Deckard lives there no problem. even if it"s safe now wouldn"t all the food supplies there be irradiated? If it is safe there now why is he the only one living there in luxury? Gosling sure gets over the loss of his "wife" fast. Gosling"s police chief just takes his word that he killed his target even though he is a replicant himself who fails his baseline test, when the stakes are a full-on war with replicants? Why is the police chief in charge of this hugely important security issue? The Lov/her boss issue is just abandoned. These are just the issues off the top of my head.
Again the main problem is the ponderous run time for no apparent reason.
In the plus column are good acting (Gosling"s not great in this but doesn"t have much to work with, same for Harrison Ford, other supporting characters are good.
Also the visuals like I said are incredible.
Elton John was amazing. Pretty sure every movie ever made will have some holes. blade runner 2049 sits in my top 5 of all time however. i found it brilliant. worth the wait. Everything Wrong With Blade Runner 2049... Nothing. I don"t get the high rating. I tried to watch it to see if it"s as good as I heard people say it is, and lost interest after giving it a generous 40 minutes. The visuals are beautiful so I will give it a 3, but it is all just effects, and add no value to the story, or do I find the any of the characters interesting. Ryan Gosling is bland to watch, not even handsome so no eye candy there. There is nothing worth watching at all. I"d never hurt Mr pickles.

I saw this at IMAX in California when it was released. It was so loud in there I had to put my fingers in my ears, but totally worth it. HEVC was designed with the idea that progressive scan video would be used and no coding tools were added specifically for interlaced video. Worst part about Blade Runner 2049 is that none of the actors are getting nominated for a Oscar when this movie has some of the best acting I"ve seen in 2017, Ryan Gosling is on fire in this movie. Also how none of the female actors in this film aren"t getting a nom but yet Meryl Streep who isn"t even that good still manages to wiggle her way in there is mind blowing.

Omg... the sound of the gun. I"m so glad they did it right, the 3 hour run-time was proper. The tempo in storytelling is miles more important than just getting people out of the theater. Gosh this movie is incredible one of the best sequels ever. This scene is incredible. The claustrophobic synth waves and mixing, K and Luv fighting while literally fighting against nature itself (and K grappling with his own nature, ultimately transcending it with his decision to save Deckard and the light above his head) it"s a complete sensory experience. Comparing an old movie to year it fantasizes and then complaining how nothing matches. Smh really. It breaks my heart that this movie made so little money compared to a Fast and Furious or Transformers movie. maybe further sequels or spinoffs would have followed if it had been a success.

I loved this movie; thought it a worthy sequel to Ripley"s original; and understand that everything in the plot was meticulously arranged for a REASON but, riddle me this, why did not Wallace Corp. simply milk Decker during unconsciousness via electrical stimulation of his prostate to then implant his seminal matter in hundreds of Rachael recreations? Would that not prove easier and perhaps, experimentally, more advantageous then exhaustively hunting down a singular being? Granted, it means a nine month wait for test subjects to be born but if you just extract genetic material from Decker for laboratory impregnantion and observation you have the added benefit of methodically and thoroughly recording the entire process from fertilization to evacuation AND being able to work with and run tests on a multitude of proto-embryos, fetuses, and infants enabling stem cell research and all-encompassing developmental comprehension of EVERYTHING related to replicant gestation, both of which IMPOSSIBLE with the now grown daughter thereof unless via dubiously effective retroactive cloning whose products would yield, in all likelihood, more defective and embryonically problematic second hand copies. I know, I know, it is necessary to continue delving into the Christian symbolism and the progression of the plot but the biologist in me is screaming out, YOU"VE GOT A PERFECTLY VIABLE SPERM BANK AND NOW A GENETICALLY IDENTICAL INCUBATOR. Wallace always called Luv his best angel, it"s only fitting that the last thing she should ever see is Officer K with a halo of light over his head. I watched the kingsman.
